Thursday 3rd December sees the publication of my fourth historical novel, House of Shadows, in hardback and as an e-book.
Like my previous three books published by Pan Macmillan, House of Shadows is set partly in the present, partly in the late 16th century, but while Time’s Echo, The Memory of Midnight and The Edge of Dark were all set in cities (York and London), this story takes place on the beautiful North York Moors.
Askerby and its Hall are fictional, but I’ve imagined them as somewhere near Lastingham, and the house itself an amalgam of Burton Agnes Hall, which is in quite a different part of Yorkshire, in fact and Cotehele in Cornwall – and the roof of Chillingham Castle provided just the inspiration I needed for the climactic scene …
- Burton Agnes Hall
- Cotehele
