Think a book is created by one person? Think again.
Writing a book is only the start of the process. It has to be edited, copy edited, and proof read. The cover has to be designed and the back cover blurb written. There’s a team to sell the book in the UK, another to deal with foreign rights. Someone is analysing data from book shops, someone else is advising on social media. Then there’s publicity and marketing and no doubt many others who are involved in getting a book onto the shelves, and let’s not forget my agent, Caroline Sheldon, and her assistant who are also very much part of the process. Whenever I feel a little solitary sitting here at my computer, I like to remember how many others care about getting my books out there too.
Here I am with just some of the team at Pan Macmillan today (11th June) – I had such a lovely welcome AND I got to take a bottle of fizz away with me!
